Welcome to “Battle Thursday’s,” the day in which we learn to take control of our Yetzer Hara (evil inclination).
There is a story told of a certain man who was very proud of his Pesach (Passover) preparations. He had begun early and his home was all clean and sparkly. You could not find one crumb of hametz. The day before Pesach he went to the well to retrieve the water he would need for the holiday. He filled his jugs and went back home.
The night of the Seder he couldn’t stop boasting about how perfect this Pesach would be because of all his efforts.
When it came time to serve the water, plop, a piece of bread fell into the glass!!! The man almost fainted and couldn’t stop crying.
The next day he went to see the sage of the town and ask him what happened? “I was so meticulous and careful with my cleaning, how could something like this happen?” The sage asked him: “Did you pray to G-d to give you a kosher Pesach?” Many times we think that the outcome of our work is in our hands, when in reality the outcome comes from H”S. We can work and work and work very hard, but we should never forget from Who the blessing comes.
We must do our job to the best of our ability, that is not questionable, but we should also remain humble and grateful and never forget Who runs the world.
