Today we count the thir …

Today we count the third day of the Omer with “Tiferet shebe Chesed” (compassion/empathy within love and kindness).
So what is Love? Love is the most potent and necessary ingredient in life. Love is the origin and foundation of all relationships. When we truly love we must know how to give and how to receive. Love allows us to go beyond ourselves and transcend. Without it , we won’t be able to connect to G-d.
This sounds beautiful and true, but sometimes it is very difficult to love those who are not lovable. What do we do? Here is were “Tiferet shebe Chesed” kicks in and saves the day. This duo allows us to love others even if they don’t deserve it.
When we put ourselves in the other person’s shoes and we see through their eyes, listen through their ears, and feel through their heart we will be full of compassion towards that person and this compassion generates love.
This doesn’t mean that one needs to be close to a toxic person that causes one pain. What it means is that with your intellect you can generate feelings of mercy towards the other and feel for him and in this way we protect ourselves from feeling animosity and hatred towards someone else.
Today work on feeling for someone else who is hard to love. Look at his childhood, his personality, his failures and pains and put yourself for one moment in their place with their way of being and tell me what you feel and if it helps you become a more loving and understanding person.
The Rebbe used to tell teachers to love more the least lovable child, because for sure this child received less love.
