Today we count the 27th …

Today we count the 27th day of the Omer with “Yesod shebe Netzach” (foundation within endurance).
This week’s Parashah “Emor,” means to “speak to the priests.” Rashi comments on this: “Speak to warn the adults about educating their children.”
Although the Parashah is speaking about the responsibility of adult priests to educate their children about their priestly duties, in a broader sense and the Parashah is relevant to everyone, it is warning parents about the importance of educating our children.
The approach of education in this Parashah is specific about teaching our children the eternal values of right and wrong.
The Omer of today is relevant to this concept because when one educates one’s children, the foundation of all education must be this basis.
We have seen in history that not necessarily the most “educated” societies are the kinder ones. Pre Holocaust Germany had the most educated people and the best universities in the world, nevertheless this education didn’t stop the people of this country to implement the cruelest actions recorded in human history.
Education is never ending, it is a continuos endeavor and it begins with ourselves. Parents should constantly be growing and learning on their quest to be better people, this endurance of spirit is an example one must give his children and hopefully with a lot of prayer, love and Emunah one’s children will come to shine with their own light.
These days in which we count the Omer teach us this advanced form of education, where a person progressively advances to higher levels of spiritual achievement as he refines different aspects of his personality step by step on a daily basis.
