Today we continue learning on how to battle our Yetzer Hara, trying to understand its nature, what gives it strength, and what makes him weak.
H”S Himself calls the Yetzer Hara “ra” (evil). The Maharal explains what good and evil really are.
H”S is the source of all goodness, all light, all creativity, all giving. Evil is everything that is opposite to this noble an lofty qualities that are manifestations of G-d’s goodness.
According to the Maharal, goodness is absolute and real, evil is what conceals the reality making H”S seem absent.
Since the Yetzer Hara operates by making H”S appear to be absent, the Yetzer Hara can be defeated simply by experiencing H”S presence, just by putting Him into the picture.
This means that when you are about to succumb to your evil inclination, remind yourself that H”S is present.
This is the whole purpose of evil, it’s there so you can bring G-d into your life, and this is the ultimate reality.
The #1 job of the month of Elul is to bring yourself closer to G-d. To walk in His ways and dwell in His House, the source of all goodness, the only reality.
