Today, the 11 of Nissan, we commemorate the Rebbe’s 117 Birthday. Why after so many years after his death we still celebrate this day by reciting chapter 118 of Tehillim and doing good deeds in Menachem Mendel Schneerson name?
The Sages teach that when a Tzadik passes from this earthly world, he has more influence than when he was alive. By learning from the Rebbe’s teachings on the Torah we also have the capacity to attach to the Tzadik. JEWISH religion doesn’t believe in praying to anyone else but G-d Himself, otherwise it is considered Avodah Zara (idol worship). But H”S does send to us in every generation very special souls, who are 100% chariots of G-d in this world, who help us simple people connect and attach to H”S.
The Rebbe’s teachings have guided us in this way and still do by helping us connect to our true essence and purpose in this world.
Today, in the era of the internet and technology we have much more opportunities to be able to learn from such luminaries. We can learn from them as if they were alive with the click of a button in the palm of your hand, and his teachings reach the farthest corners of the world. There is no excuse anymore to maintain ourselves ignorant of our heritage. Ignorance is bliss but knowledge is power!!!
