This week we read Paras …

This week we read Parasha Terumah, in which H”S instructs the Jewish people to build Him a Mishkan so He can dwell in you. The wording is very strange, He doesn’t say to build a Tabernacle so He can dwell in it, but to dwell in you.
The Mishkan was a temporary structure that accompanied the Jews through their 40 years in the desert and later on it stood inside Israel until the construction of the first Temple.
Although the building of this Mishkan was the mission of the Jews and they had to work to build it, when it came to the seventh day, H”S commanded them to stop all work and rest.
The whole purpose of all the work in this world is for that one day called “Shabbat.”
The very foundation of our faith is the observance of Shabbat. H”S has given man the intelligence and creative skills to gain mastery over Creation six days a week. By stoping our creative work and the use of our abilities one day a week, we proclaim H”S as the Source of all power and the Force which continuously renews creation.
