“This is the law of the burnt-offering.”(Vayikra 6:2)
Our verse can be read:”This” is the principle of the arrogant person, the one who looks at himself as an exalted person (haolah).
He constantly demands “this.” He always wants things to be done his way without taking the needs of others into consideration.
Since the haughty person always wants to have everything his way, this makes him inconsiderate towards others. Sadly this faulty character trait will create much unrest and pain in every situation.
Even in moments of calm and joy, this person will always find a problem or a reason to make demands and bring a fight. Even if those around him give in to his ways just to keep the peace, they will still suffer much pain and anguish.
This is why it is so important to be mindful of others and their needs. When we get out of ourselves we gain much more than what we loose. Not only are we bringing joy to others, we are also bringing joy and peace of mind to ourselves.
