Since this week we walk …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

Since this week we walk in the footsteps of our forefather Abraham, the epitome of love and kindness, we should try to internalize the most amount of kindness possible and take advantage of the energy of the week.
Maimonides teaches us how to develop a generous and kind personality. He says that we should get accustomed to so many small acts of kindness as we can.For example, instead of giving $100 to charity go to the bank and change it for $1.00 bills and then give them away one by one. In stead of being one act of kindness you will make 100 acts of kindness. In this way you will be building up this beautiful character trait of Chesed.
In Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Father’s 4:2) it says “one good deed leads to another good deed.”
The founder of a major charitable organization that lends medical equipment free of charge started by lending vaporizers that he lent to his neighbors. This grew and grew and today it is a national institution.
Even if your random acts of kindness don’t evolve into major acts of kindness, a small act in itself has an eternal value. The recipient will never forget what you did for him and although it might seem small in the bigger picture it’s huge.
