Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing everyone a blessed and very successful week.
Today I woke up to a very foggy day in NY. I was traveling to Panama to spend Passover with my Panamanian family. It took two hours for the plane to be able to take off and we were stranded in the plane for this time. But all that didn’t matter. Traveling with us were a group of 14 bachurim (Yeshiva students) from the Chabad movement who were traveling to different random places, which I had never heard off, within Panama and Peru. Their whole purpose of their trip was to conduct the Pesach seders in these places for young Israeli backpackers. What struck me the most is to see the sense of mission they carried with them. Some where even going to places in the Amazon jungle, which for me it’s mind boggling. I myself have a comfortable kitchen and everything I need to prepare my seders, I can’t imagine their conditions to prepare food for so many in make up kitchens with whatever they can find.
The whole experience was very humbling and all I could think of is how H”S really loves His children making sure that no one is left without the opportunity to sit at a seder.
Many years ago there was an initiative to put an empty chair at the seder table in honor of a victim of the holocaust. The Rebbe Lubavitch reacted very strongly to that idea by saying: “the best way to honor a victim of the holocaust is not with an empty chair, the best way is to invite someone who doesn’t have where to go on the seder night and make him part of the seder.”
My friends, maybe we are not able to go to the Amazon jungle or any other random place to prepare a seder for people who otherwise wouldn’t have one, but we can all for sure find someone who is alone and has nowhere to go.
