Israel will begin comme …

Israel will begin commemorations of Yom Hashoa (Holocaust Remembrance Day) on Wednesday night throughout Thursday till nightfall. On this solemn day we remember the six million Jews who so tragically perished during the holocaust.
Today we count the 11th day of the Omer with”Netzach shebe Gevurah” (Endurance within Discipline) and I would like to take this day to also honor the Jews who were able to withstand such atrocities and later on rebuild their lives.
Jewish people were endowed with the tremendous gift of resilience and endurance. Throughout the ages we have survived slavery, inquisition, progroms, crusades, holocaust, terrorism, and sadly today antisemitism is rising in huge waves.
In my Shul there were two beautiful men that liked to come and pray by us, David Z’L and Issy Z’L they were both holocaust survivors and they had to go through such horrors when they were just teenagers. One day they opened up and started telling us their horrific stories. Someone asked: “how were you able to survive that and come out to build beautiful jewish families?” To which David answered: “every day I would constantly repeat to myself, tomorrow will be a better day.”
This combination of endurance and discipline not only brought them out of the darkest place ever, but allowed them to build lives of meaning and purpose with love and joy in their hearts. If this is not heroism, then I don’t know what it is?
