In this weeks Torah Portion “Toldot”. Isaac, Abraham’s son, as his father did before him dug wells and since everything that is in the Torah is relevant to us we ask ourselves “what is it this thing about digging wells have to do with us?”
Well let’s see what you need to dig a well and what is it that you are looking for?
To dig a well you need persistence (apart from a shovel). You need to not stop when you hit a rocky stretch. To dig a well you need humility to understand that your are not self made, that it would be impossible to be who you are without G-d’s help. But most importantly, to dig a well you need faith. Faith that beneath the sand and rocks, slime and grime awaits the fresh and clean spring water. Although the Torah presents it to us a digging wells in our own personal lives we are digging the well of our true self. Everything you are is beneath all that grime, mud and rock. We just need to unearth it an reveal the goodness that is buried underneath. And for that we need FAITH, faith to believe in ourselves.
