In this week’s Torah Portion “Beha’alosecha” (when you raise up).
“When you kindle the lamps, towards the face of the Menorah shall the seven lamps cast light.” (8:1)
Rashi cites our sages who explain the use of the word “Beha’alosecha”, which really means “when you raise up,” as opposed to “beha’adlikcha”, which means “when you kindle”. What this means is that when the Kohen is going to kindle the lights of the Menorah he has to keep lighting the lamp until the light raises up on its own.
In our daily lives we should apply this concept to the education of our children. We don’t let go until they can rise on their own, until then we should always keep lighting their fire with JEWISH education and values doing it with love and joy. Transmitting our light from generation to generation so it will shine forever.
