In this week’s Parash …

In this week’s Parashah “Naso” (to lift up), we read the commandment given to the Kohanim to bless the people, on H”S behalf. This three fold blessing:”Yevarechecha-H”S bless us and protect us” is talking about our material possessions, that they should be blessed and protected from thieves.
“May G-d cause His face to shine to you and favor you. May G-d raise His face towards you and grant you peace.” Means that G-d should suppress His anger.
H”S is in reality the Giver, the Guardian, and the Taker of everything we have. We should never forget this. If we keep this in mind everyday of our lives we will not only appreciate everything much more, but at the same time this blessing will be effective.
It is not a coincidence that Parashah Naso is read either the week before Shavuot or the week after, when the Torah is given to us and we commit ourselves to study and practice the Mitzvot.
Rashi comments that the Kohanim bless the people in the name of H”S, which He joins and blesses the people Himself and when the Kohanim mention H”S name in these blessings, H”S not only approves, but gives additional blessings of his own.
When we live up to our purpose and true calling in life with Torah and Mitzvahs then we will achieve the ultimate blessing which is PEACE.
