In this week’s Parasha “Ki Tavo” there is a verse that says: “And you shall rejoice with all the good that The Almighty has given you.” (Devarim 26:11)
This is a mitzvah!!!! We are obligated to feel joy with what we were given by H”S. when we are not appreciative of our blessings we can’t be happy. Why do we need to be told to rejoice? Shouldn’t we automatically feel happy when we have good things?
The Talmud teaches that we die with half of what we wanted. It is human nature to want to have more. “He who has 100 wants 200.”(Kohelet Rabbah 1:34)
Usually we are thinking of what we are lacking, instead of focusing on what we do have.
This is why the Torah commands us to rejoice with what H”S has given us.
More stuff won’t ever make us happy. Gratitude and acknowledging where the good comes from will.
