In Parashah “Chayei Sarah,” Abraham sends his servant Eliezer to find a suitable wife for his son Yitzchak. From here we learn how important it is that parents are involved in their children’s future, specially in matters of Shiduch ( finding their match in life).
“Abraham told Eliezer, you must go to my land, to my family, and take a wife for my son, Yitzchak.”(Bereshit 23:17)
Here the Torah is giving us good advise when looking for a partner in life. It tells us to look for someone that is similar to us, someone who has the same values and morals, someone compatible.
A couple once came to the Rebbe, they were having some differences. The Rebbe said to them: “you can be in a different page but you must be in the same book.”
Today I encounter many young adults having many issues in finding their bashert (meant to be). The world became a bigger place, than when I was in my younger years.
This Parashah sheds some light for all those looking for their loved one.
Rivkah was exemplary for her kindness, look for a good heart. Someone who will be kind to you and others.
And last but not least, understand that the person you decide to marry, really shares a soul root with you. The two of you together should complement each other and bring out the best qualities that each has.
Just like Abraham and Sarah and continuing Yitzchak and Rivkah brought much holiness to the world from their very special unions.
Together you should build a beautiful home full of peace, love, and much appreciation for each other.
