In Parasha “Shemo …

In Parasha “Shemot” (Names), Moses is pasturing his father in law’s sheep (Yitro) in Horeb when he saw a burning bush. He got very curious by the sight and got closer to it. Suddenly a voice was coming from the burning bush and it was G-d talking to him saying to Moses to take off his shoes because he was standing on holy ground.
In previous times every time G-d spoke to our forefathers it would come in a direct way, why this time it had to come through a burning bush and what is the meaning of asking Moses to take off his shoes?
Before the Exile the Shechina of G-d was more revealed to us but because of the tremendous suffering the Jews had to endure through the hands of the Egyptians it was much harder for them to see the Hand of G-d. This is why He revealed himself in a spectacular way, so he would catch Moses attention.
What H”S was telling Moses is that they should never forget that our connection to G-d comes from our engagement in our daily earthly world. Our passion of serving G-d should burn always but it should never be consumed. When G-d asked Moses to take his shoes off because he was standing on holy land and the shoes separated him from his connection to his mission. He meant that everywhere you stand on is holy, for the whole earth is a creation of G-d and the first lesson G-d gave the Jewish People was that we are not meant to unplug ourselves from the world, we are meant to work, get married, buy clothes and food, live in homes and have an earthly experience but to never forget to imbue it with holiness by revealing the fire burning in our hearts. In this way our own personal burning bush will always burn and will never consume.
