In Chanukah our main ingredient is Oil. The best way to light the Menorah is with olive oil, we eat fried foods to remember the miracle of the Menorah burning for eight days when there was only olive oil for one day.
Just as in the physical the olive oil has healing properties, in the spiritual the olive oil also represents healing of the soul.
The spiritual components of the olive oil are as follows:
-to be able to take out the extra virgin olive oil you have to crush the olive and the first drop that comes out is the extra virgin olive oil. This crushing process in our personal life is what gives us HUMILITY and humility gives us the ability to be able to shine for others. Arrogance is the opposite of humility and it takes away your inner light.
– oil also has the capacity to penetrate thick surfaces. In our personal lives we should be able to be empathetic towards others, feeling their pain and enjoying their joys.
– oil doesn’t mix with any other liquid. When a person has self worth and knows their place in this world he/she will not try to be like others. He/she will maintain their standing.
-oil not only doesn’t mix with any other liquid but it will also always rise above it. When we “live a little higher” we will always rise above our circumstances.
