Happy Women’s International Day this week we are preparing to receive Purim and the heroin of our story was Queen Esther. From Her we can learn many secrets of our inner strengths. The first lesson given to us by Queen Esther’s approach to life is to believe in our hidden powers, the name Esther itself means “Hidden.” Her beauty, grace and strength where hidden in her, but King Ahashverosh could tap into her inner aspect and this is why he chose her from amongst all the other possible girls. Secondly, she could see the hand of G-d in the situation she was put in and she embraced her destiny. She kept strong to her believes and kept kosher and kept Shabbat through her whole life even by hiding her Jewish identity for a long time. She recognized that the best answer to hatred is unity and she asked all the Jews, even the children,to fast on her behalf so they could all gain merits in the eyes of H”S. She believed that the salvation came from the relationship with G-d, so she created a plan of communal fasting, teshuvah, and prayer which showed her leadership skills. We also learn from this great woman that in life sometimes we have to make self sacrifices for the greater good, in her case she sacrificed herself for the salvation of the Jewish people when she went to the King without being called and this could of meant death, and she said “if I perish, I perish,” but if She survived she asked to document the whole story which we read till today every Purim with her message of:”no matter how hopeless our situation might seem we should never loose hope,” be with us always.
