Yom Kipur is a day of forgiving and a day of hope.
In the days before the holiest day of the year we should be forgiving all those who have wronged us and also we should be asking forgiveness to those we have wronged during the year.
We all carry baggage and sometimes it’s just too heavy on us.
Just as we come on Yom Kipur to ask H”S to forgive us for anything that has been done against Him and He completely turns our sins around into merits, we should also exercise the same compassion and mercy towards our fellow.
Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes. Most of the time we fight to see who is right and who is wrong. Or because someone said something that hurt you, or, or ,or….
Rabbi Yossi Jacobson says why do children make up so easily after they fight with a friend?
Because for them, it’s more important to be happy than to be right. For us adults, it’s the other way around.
Take that first step, don’t wait for the other to do it first. Be the hero!! It takes tons of courage and a lot of humility, but it’s so worth it.
H”S cannot forgive us for a fight between man and man, that we have to do ourselves. But He can give us the strength to do it, and once it’s done your whole year ahead will be so different, so light.
And just as you are with others, H”S will be with you.
