What does it mean to be a visionary?
A visionary is a person who has a basic sense of conceptualizing goals and objectives. For such a person, every major decision is made in terms of his goals. He asks himself if such an action will bring him closer or will it drift him apart?
It sounds very logic and easy to achieve in paper, but not so much when we are trapped by the mundane part of our lives.
The Torah is a guide to life, this is why H”S gave it to us. Without a plan and the directive of how to accomplish that plan we would be lost in a sea of uncertainty.
Although the Jewish people have experienced all kinds of suffering in their history, the Torah tells us that there is a purpose and that is to get to the Promised Land. There is a physical Promised Land and there is a spiritual Promised Land.
We should never take our eyes off the true purpose of our existence.
Every other purpose is just a way to get there.
The key message for this promised future is that while we are here in the now, we must prepare for it and make it happen. This idea is expressed in this week’s Haftorah (reading from the prophets);”Zion will be redeemed through justice (Torah), and its captives will go free through charity.”(Isaiah 1:27)
Through Torah study, teaching justice and righteousness in all aspects of life, and living a life full of good deeds such as giving tzedakah, we can finally arrive to the glorious and promised future of peace and love, which is our whole purpose in life. Let’s make it happen now!
