Welcome to “Battle Thursday’s,” the day in which we learn and gain understanding of our “Yetzer Hara” (evil inclination).
A principle concerning physical pleasures is that “he who starves himself is sated, and he who is sated is starved.”
The more we give importance to the material pleasures of life the harder it will be for us to be able to control our evil inclination.
The more we have, the more we want. This is human nature and it’s the way in which we are all wired.
Also a person that grows in his spiritual life can fall into this predicament. In a subtle way, a person who is very knowledgeable or holds a high position has to be very careful not to fall into arrogance and use his power to harm others.
In either case, what is important to keep in mind is that we should never stop refining ourselves and always work on being humble.
Always ask yourself: “which is the intention behind everything you think, speak, or do?
The reason behind our actions will give us the answer to this question and that will allow us to see if our doings come from our evil inclination or good inclination.
