We find something fascinating in Parasha “Shelach.”
When the spies Moshe sent to scout the land of Israel came back they brought a horrific report of what they saw.
The first thing they encountered when they entered Israel was that there was a plague and hundreds of people were dying. They thought that this was a Land that swallowed its inhabitants. The reality was that H”S had created this situation so they could come into the Land unnoticed because of the chaos that was unfolding. The people were so busy burying their dead and taking care of their situation that they didn’t see the spies.
The spies had gone with the intention of finding every problem they could find. The people were giants, the fruit was humongous, etc…They were incredibly brilliant men, and that was why they saw an incredibly frightening land. They said:”no way in the world, according to logic, we will ever make it here and be able to conquer this country.
Logic can kill us and it generates FEAR.
Sometimes we need to step out from our boundaries and take that leap of faith, transcending all mental limitations. If we think: “this is impossible, it can never be achieved, I’m not good enough, etc..” We won’t be able to achieve what needs to be achieved.
So what can you do when you are really afraid? Take all that fear and translate it into simple“Yiras Shamaim” (Fear of H”S)! Only fear H”S!!!! What this means is be scared to be separated from G-d. Take that quantum leap and when put in a situation of FEAR and DESPAIR ask yourself: “what does H”S want from me? What can I do that will bring me closer to Him?” When you open your spiritual eyes, you will see that there was nothing to fear in the first place. All will disappear because you will be able to see the truth. If the spies would of used this approach, they would’ve seen the blessing in disguise and they wouldn’t of fallen into panic and made all the Jewish people fall into fear and anguish.
Yes my friends, there is a place for logic and wisdom in our lives. But when fear enters your mind or heart, the wisdom is found in your Yiras Shamayim.
