Tonight we light the eighth light of Chanukah.
Although we celebrate the victory of the Jewish people over the Hellenistic movement of Ancient Greece nothing has changed much since those days.
Today in 2018 we still have to fight the same fight. Assimilation is one of our biggest tests. The secular world is very alluring and enticing. It’s all about the senses and physical pleasure. The Jewish world is the complete opposite, it’s all about living a life dedicated to G-d and fulfilling the purpose for which we were created.
We could compare it to giving a child to choose between an ice cream or kale.
Maybe outwardly the ice cream is more enticing, but inwardly the kale is more wholesome.
As Jews we need to never forget why we are here, what is our purpose and what life is all about.
We should take to heart the lessons learned these eight days. To be proud Jews and stand straight, to not give up who we are for nothing in the world and to increase our light every day bringing hope and Love everywhere we go.
