Today we count the second day of the Omer with “Gevura Shebe Chesed” (Discipline within Love and Kindness).
For love to be healthy there always has to be an element of discipline and boundaries. Love must be directed properly. When we discipline our children our only intention should be the best for them. When a child is misbehaving we shouldn’t be concerned about us, if they humiliate us or give us shame in public or privately. We should be concerned on them being righteous people because this is the best for them not us.
When a child doesn’t act in the best way, we should ask them “is this behavior proper for a person so special as you?”
This applies to any relationship. It’s not about us, it’s about them.
“Rain is a blessing only because it falls in drops, that don’t flood the fields”(Simon Jacobson),
This is how we should be with our loved ones, one drop at a time using our discipline in a measured way and a loving and kind way so we can grow a field.
