Today we count the 48th day of the Omer with “Yesod She Be Malchut” (Foundation in Kingship).
This verse in Tehillim (psalms 16:8) teaches a fundamental principle of the Torah, and represents one of the qualities of the righteous who stand before G-d. A person’s conduct in the Kings presence- wether in speech, business, or when attending to physical needs- differs dramatically from his conduct in the privacy of his home. When we are aware that we are always standing before the King of Kings we will always be careful in our behavior.
(Rama,Orach Chaim 1:1 from Rambam).
This reminds me of a story I once read of Reb Moshe Reichman OBM that made an impact in my life till today. He was very sick and was coming out of the hospital after his treatment, he said to his son that he was very thirsty. The son went and bought a bottle of water and gave it to him, to what he said: “in all my life I have never drank from a bottle, always from a cup, I’m not going to change now.”
Reb Moshe had reached such a level of awareness that he was even careful in how he drank water, which is not proper and befitting to drink from the bottle.
So I decided to follow in Reb Moshe’s footsteps and guess what? At first it was awkward to come into the gym with a bottle of water and a cup, later I found a special glass for exercising. This little, which would seem useless act really makes a difference in our awareness to our behavior bringing us to higher level of Avodah H”S by bringing our royal spark out and reminding us all the time who we are and Who we represent.
