Today Jews all over the world are fasting in commemoration of Ta’anit Esther (the fast of Esther). On the 13th of Adar Haman was going to implement his final solution. One year before this date Queen Esther asked every man,woman and child to fast for three days. Fasting arouses the mercy and compassion of H”S. On the third day of the fast she approached King Ahashberosh praying to G-d that the king would have mercy and find grace in her. The king here really is G-d. The physical king was Ahashberosh, but the One that decides everything is H”S. From then on we fast on the 13th of Adar before Purim which actually begins tonight and then we go to Shul to listen to the Megilla and break the fast.
May H”S find grace in us and be merciful too. May the day in which darkness is transformed to light come very soon.
