This week’s Paras …

This week’s Parasha “Va’eira” (I revealed Myself) “G-d talks to Moses, and said to him, ‘I am G-d.’ ” (Shemot 6:2)
So we are introduced to the Ten Plagues in which H”S wanted to bring the Jewish people out of Egypt and show Pharaoh who rules. The plagues were not only designed to punish the Egyptians and give them an opportunity to correct themselves, but also they were intended for the Jews to refine themselves for they had fallen into the 49 degree of impurity, one more degree and we would of been eliminated.
So every plague is connected to one of our Ten Sefirot (lights), 3 intellectual and 7 emotional.
The first plague- the Nile is connected to the Sefira of Malchut (Dignity- Kingship-Confidence) which turns into blood and is the only source of sustenance of the Egyptians, for in Egypt never rains and the vegetation grows because of the overflowing river and its irrigation. The Nile river was a physical symbol of wealth and abundance, it gave the Egyptians confidence which made them dominate and exploit the Jews. When once perception of confidence becomes corrupt, it can lead that person to generate rivers of blood, as the Egyptians did. The waters of the Nile turning into blood reflected this perverse use of strength and power to slaughter and butcher countless of innocent human beings. Sadly today in the 21st century we still experience this type of regimes where so many are dehumanized and brutally exterminated for the thirst of power.
For the Jews the refinement came in building up their confidence and learning about their worth as a people and individuals.
Blood is the active force inside of us, it is where our animal soul has expression. Our passions, lusts, needs and wants reside there. It is up to us to redirect all this emotions and use them for holy purposes and not G-d forbid for power, dominance and exploitation of others.
