This week’s Parasha “Naso” (to lift up) is always read on the Shabbat either before or after Shavuot, indicating that the predominant theme of “Naso” is strongly connected with the giving of the Torah, celebrated in Shavuot.
When H”S gave the Torah at Sinai a significant change came to the world. Before the giving of the Torah the spiritual realm and the physical plane were completely separated, they were not compatible at all.
After H”S gave us the Torah the material became infused with holiness. We really brought heaven down to earth by accepting by saying “Na’aseh Venishma” (We will do and we will learn).
Consequently, when we study Torah now, we not only get educated and knowledgeable, but more importantly, our physical being becomes infused, strengthened and uplifted by the spirituality of Torah and this is what the name of this Parasha wants to teach us.
From here we can learn that the Torah was not limited to the realm of the academic or even the spiritual, but it should affect every fiber of our being, it should affect us so deeply, to the extent that even our ordinary, everyday activities become uplifted as a result of our exposure to Torah, fulfilling the Divine intent that “the upper worlds” and “lower worlds” should be in harmony with one another.
