This week’s Paras …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

This week’s Parasha “MIKETZ” (At the end) begins with Pharaoh having two dreams. In one he dreams of seven fat cows and seven skinny cows standing together and then the skinny cows eat the fat cows. He wakes up and falls asleep again and dreams of seven fat ears of grain and seven skinny ears of grain and the seven skinny ears of grain swallow the fat ears of grain.
Joseph was brought to Pharaoh to interpret the dreams in which he tells Pharaoh that the two dreams are actually one dream in which there are going to be seven years of plenty and seven years of brutal famine. What stood Joseph apart from the rest of Pharaohs wise men was that he knew that in the dream the solution to the problem was presented which was to accumulate grain in the years of plenty so in times of famine they would have food. This interpretation made him the Viceroy of Egypt and he not only saved Egypt from dying of hunger but the whole world at large.
This highlights the fact that all matters of holiness require effort, ensuring that what we receive from G-d, in this case a prophesy through a dream, should not be unearned “bread of shame”, but on the contrary , in this case Joseph understood that H”S was giving him the information to become great and save many lives. When a person dedicates himself to serious work, he has the promise of success when always ascending when dealing with matters of holiness.
