This very powerful quote is a wake up call, mostly because it was said by Steven Sotloff Z’L, a Jewish American journalist that was brutally murdered by ISIS in September 2014.
The month of Adar reminds us about living joyously. Without joy in our lives is as if we were not alive. Existing and living are two very different approaches to life. To exist is merely to occupy space in this world, just as a table and chair would do. To LIVE is a whole different ball game. To live means you love life, you don’t take for granted any millisecond of it, you have a meaning and a purpose, you love everyone around you, you are kind, every breath you take is not in vain, you don’t complain, you are grateful for everything in your life (the good and the bad), you understand the privilege it is to be alive and to be able to be in this world, you are a giver and not a taker, you try to make everything better around you, you love peace more than being right and you think good all the time. You bring joy to others everywhere you go and you walk with G-d every step of the way.
If we are able to live in this way we will never be bereft of joy in our hearts.
