This Mishnah in Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Father’s) teaches us that anger is caused by arrogance. An arrogant person takes offense easily. The first to types of characters described are certainly flawed, but their temperaments reveal that they are not truly arrogant because they have the capacity to be appeased.
The first type is sensitive to his own feelings this is why he is angered easily, but he is also sensitive to others feelings and this is why he is also appeased easily.
The second type is not sensitive to his own feelings and others feelings this is why he is slow both in getting anger and being appeased.
The third type is oblivious to an offense committed to him, he doesn’t see the offense as personal, but he is sensitive to others feelings so he is easily appeased. And the fourth category, however, is hyper-sensitive regarding himself-easily angered-yet insensitive to others;not easily appeased. This person represents the height of haughtiness and is called wicked.
Although most of us aren’t blessed with the Chasids temperament this is something to keep in mind and try to emulate his ways. For sure we do have the capacity to control our reactions to others and we can also work being less ego and more soul, in this way we can transform and conquer our nature.
