The Torah portion of …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

The Torah portion of “Mishpatim,” deals with civil and criminal laws which are self understood and any descent society could come up with them on their own. The interesting thing is that these laws were given to the Jewish people right after Matan Torah, when they received the Ten Commandments.
One would think that after having such a mystical and spiritual experience H”S would come and teach them all the mystical aspects of the Torah. Instead He came and gave them the laws of being righteous people when dealing with others.
Most people think that being spiritual means to be detached from the material world, but Parasha Mishpatim teaches us that being a spiritual person really means to be a G-dly person. A person that lives Torah in every aspect of his/her life, specially when dealing with others.
It is precisely in the mundane, in the most material part of our lives that we can transcend our materialistic and egocentric urges and live a little higher by doing H”S will even if it goes against our gain and desires.
So if you want to know if you are really a spiritual person, make an accounting of your behavior and actions dealing with your fellowmen.
