The Parasha of this wee …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

The Parasha of this week is “Vezos Habracha” (And this is the blessing).
Although this Torah portion is not read on Shabbat, it is the concluding Parasha of the Torah and it’s read on Simchas Torah when ending the Torah and beginning again with Parasha Bereshit.
The Torah begins with Parasha Bereshit (In the beginning), which teaches us the general principle that “G-d created the world for the sake of the Torah which is called the beginning of His way,” (Rashi to Bereshit 1:1). The following Parasha’s in the Torah teach us on how to live a life fulfilling the plan of creation by doing Mitzvahs and behaving in a manner befitting to the plan.
The blessings described in this Torah portion are greater than any other blessings given earlier. The interesting thing to note is that this Parasha is not read on Shabbat but on a weekday, and although it is a Festival day, it has a lower sanctity than Shabbat.
So with Parasha Vezos Habracha we witness two extremes: it is the Parasha that includes the most blessings and yet it is read on a day that contains lesser holiness.
This indicates that these blessings are intended to penetrate the lower spheres and this is why they come from a higher source.
The blessing is to see the blessing!
Some people feel that they need to seclude themselves in a higher environment, in a cave, in a certain community, etc… to receive the blessings. Here H”S is telling us that in the mundane, in the ordinary you can always find the extraordinary. “Point to it with one’s finger, and say, this is the blessing!”
