The need for a home is …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

The need for a home is intrinsic to the soul of man and a defining aspect of the human state.
The special distinction of the Mitzvah of Sukkah as an all embracing medium of connection to G-d is best understood in light of the significance of the “home” to the human being.
Our Sages point out how deeply rooted is a person’s desire for a home. The desire for a home is much more than the need for shelter and security.
It’s interesting to note that a person’s identification with his or her home is not confined to the hours he or she spends within its walls. But nevertheless, our home gives us a floor where to stand and a roof and walls that shelter us from the outside world and it’s elements.
For seven days G-d commands us to leave this home and we make the Sukkah our home, this home is a little different. If it’s cold we feel it, if it’s hot we feel it, if it rains we get wet, in other words we are reminded that our only security is H”S.
This reminder should take us the rest of the year into not making false ideas on where our security comes from.
The home in which we dwell normally may give us a sense of security, but the truth is that the One that takes care of us is H”S.
