“(The Eternal) took him (Abraham) outside and He said to him, look up, please, at the heavens and count the stars, if it is possible. And He said to him, so, too, will be your descendants.” (Genesis 15:5)
The Baal Shem Tov explained that the descendants of Abraham are like the stars. We see the stars from a great distance and they appear to be mere tiny specks, but in reality in the heavens they are gigantic being in the cosmos.
In the same way in the world a person might seem insignificant and very small, but when you look at them closely they have greatness.
When you look at another person, realize they are like a star. Most of the time we judge people in a superficial level, but when we get closer and look at their potential we can appreciate the great value they carry. This will give you respect towards another and by showing this respect the other will feel worthy gaining more respect for themselves. Ultimately this will give the person the strength and encouragement he or she needs to live up to their potential.
