“Six days you shall work and the seventh day shall be sacred for you. It is a complete rest for the Lord.(Shemot 35:2)
Rashi cites the sages that the Torah repeats the prohibition against working on Shabbat as an introduction to the command to build the Mishkan.
This is to teach us that working on Shabbat is forbidden even for the great Mitzvah of building the holiest of places.(Sforno)
The Mishkan (Sanctuaty in the desert) and the two Holy Temples where dwelling places for H”S in this world, but the dwelling place can only be sanctified if we keep Shabbat.
The whole purpose of the six work days is to be able to enjoy the work on Shabbat. If we don’t rest on the seventh day, then there is no purpose for the six work days.
The seventh day is not only the culmination of the previous work, but it also enhances it and gives it meaning. By doing this, on Shabbat we create the energy for the week to come, infusing the next six days with holiness and blessings and in this way we build a dwelling place for H”S.
Shabbat Shalom
