Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing you a well lived week.
It is that time of the year in which we begin our preparations for “Pesach” (Passover). We start by cleaning our homes and getting them rid of “chametz” (leavened foods made from any of the five grains:spelt, wheat, barley,
oats, and rye).
I usually begin with the bedrooms, checking drawers, cabinets, handbags, pockets and any place where I could find any chametz. My suggestion would be to do one room every day and in that way it will be easy and not overwhelming to you.
The search of the chametz, although it is a physical search, it’s also a spiritual search. Chametz represents our EGO, a part of us that when left unattended it can grow so much that it takes over our personalities, attributes and anything that is attributed to us making us very egocentric and selfish human beings. Sadly when we are overtaken by this dangerous force we can cause a lot of damage to others and ourselves. Pesach is not only the festival of our liberation from physical slavery, but so much more it is the festival of freedom from our EGO. The secret to true joy is contained in how careful we are of getting rid of our internal and external chametz. For it to be successful we need to begin with time one day at a time searching deep into ourselves and our homes and properties for the chametz.
Remember that dust is not chametz and our families are not the Korban Pesach (Pascual Lamb). Just concentrate on getting rid of the chametz and don’t get carried away with spring cleaning which will get you tired and fussy and it will take your attention somewhere else.
