This week we read Parasha “Va’eira” (I revealed Myself).
“And Moshe spoke to the children of Israel and they did not listen to Moshe for anguish of spirit and hard work.”(Shemot 6:9)
It was hard for them to listen to what Moshe was trying to convey to them, which was that they would be redeemed finally to come as free people to the Land of Israel.
We can understand by reading carefully this pasuk, that when someone is suffering very much all he wants is that others listen to him/her. The person is not yet ready to hear that he will have good fortune and much success in the future. If someone paints them a picture of a great future, it is so far removed from his/her present reality that he won’t be able to relate to it.
This is why H”S told Moshe to just tell them that they will be taken out of Egypt, without any mention of a bright future.
People need to be talked to at the level in which they are at that moment and little by little with much empathy and love we can show the person how to get out of their current pain and then you can give them a more positive message.
