Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing everyone a blessed week!
This week we begin reading Parasha “Tetzaveh” (command), as the opening verse reads:”And you shall command the children of Israel that they should bring to you pure olive oil beaten for the light to cause the lamp to burn always.”(Shemot 27:20)
The Midrash comments on this verse that H”S doesn’t really need the light but anyways you should make a light for Him just as He makes a light for you.The Midrash continues by giving us an analogy of a blind person and a person who could see who were walking together. The person who could see led the blind person the entire way. When The finally came to their destination, the person who could see told the blind person to make a light. “I want you to make this,” he said,”so you will not feel in debt of gratitude for all that I have done for you. Now you also have done something in return for me.”
Usually when we do a favor or we give tzedakah to someone else we have ulterior motives, but the ultimate kindness is when we do for others not expecting anything in return.
H”S infinite kindness is shown in this verse, by us kindling the Menorah constantly making its light burn continuously makes us spiritually self-sufficient giving back the kindness that is bestowed on us.
Today we kindle this light by performing mitzvahs in this world in a constant way.
