Shavuah Tov! Wishing everyone a blessed week!
In life it is not what you say, but how you say it. It’s incredible to note how punctuation can make the same phrase have two different and opposite meanings.
Actually the Torah teaches us in Bereshit that “And the Lord G-d said, “It is not good that man is alone; I shall make him a helpmate opposite him.” “A-dnai Elokim lo- tov heiot HaAdam lebado ezer kenegdo.”
The wording is strange “a helpmate opposite him” what does this mean? How can you help and at the same time be against?
Our sages teach us that woman was created to help men achieve their max. Women, when they live according to their true selves are their max, they don’t need a man to achieve this, but men can’t do it alone. Because of their make up they need a woman to help them be more giving and more selfless. Women by nature are giving and nurturers. They take care of their family and home. So here the Pasuk is saying if the man is living up to his standards his wife will be his helpmate, but if he is not living up to the way he should the wife will be against him and by being against him she is his helper.
