Shavuah Tov!!! Wishing everyone a blessed week.
This week we read Parasha “Vayeishev” (settled).
Ironically although the name of the Torah reading means “settled,” we read the most unsettling event in Yaakov’s life.
After a very hectic life, Yaakov sought to settle in tranquility in the land of Canaan. But his sons decide to get rid of their brother Yosef and sell him to a caravan of gypsies going down to Egypt. Yaakov is told that Yosef was eaten by a wild animal, and here begins the saddest part of his life.
In life we don’t come to settle down and relax. H”S is constantly moving our floor and empowering us to grow and move forward.
At the end of his life this request of peace and tranquillity was finally granted to Yaakov, as we find that in his last 17 years he lived a peaceful and comfortable life in Egypt.
So this entire Parasha is called “Vayeishev” (settled) for the meaning and purpose of this entire ordeal was sent to Yaakov by H”S to elevate him spiritually to the point where he could live a totally harmonious life in this world, as well as in the world to come.
