Shavuah Tov! Wishing everyone a blessed week.
This week we read Parasha “Vayechi” (And he lived).
It would look like an inappropriate name for a Parasha which speaks almost entirely about the events surrounding Yaakov’s passing.
What is life? The Torah teaches us:”you who are connected to G-d,your G-d,are all alive today.”(Devarim 4:4), in other words, true life means to be connected to G-d.
It’s interesting to note, that when a person passes from this world all his or her qualities become so much more impressive than when they were alive. Why is it that when our loved ones are still here we don’t appreciate them as such.
Today I had the privilege to go to a Bikur Cholim (organization that takes care of the sick)event in NYC. In this event they were honoring the memory of a person that was very dear to me and to so many others.
I really felt she is more alive today that when she was in this world.
Her exemplary kindness and caring for others has been magnified with her absence, but as it was put by her beautiful daughter:”my moms legacy doesn’t stop with her, it will live on through her children and grandchildren and hopefully they will teach to their children too and so on.”
When we live in such a way “Vayechi.”
In memory of Bina Bat Eliyahu Yehoshua z”l. May her neshama have an Alyia
