Shavuah Tov!! Wishing everyone a blessed week.
This week we begin the second book of the Torah “Shemot,” (Names).
Many years have passed since Yaakov and his sons lived and the Jewish people have become many in the land of Egypt. Pharaoh decides to enslave them and the 210 years of slavery begin for the Jewish people.
The morale is very low, all the Jewish boys must be drowned in the Nile river and the men decide to divorce their wives so no more children be born in this very dark time.
But Miriam, saves the nation by telling her father that he is worse than Pharaoh because Pharaoh only wants to get rid of the boys, but the Jewish men don’t even want to give the girls a chance.
So the Jewish women seduce their husbands in the fields where they work, with their copper mirrors they show them how beautiful they are and in this way husbands and wives are once more together.
And Moses is born from Yoheved and Amram, the brother of Miriam and Aharon, who will be a great light and leader and who will bring the JEWISH nation out of slavery.
Because one women was able to stand up against the reality of the moment, because she had the strength and determination to see the outcome of their actions and fight against them, a whole nation survived the inimaginable and still stands up straight and proud. Our Jewish mothers throughout generations of hardships and pain have inherited this trait of resilience and strength and the story continues in this generation to take this lesson to heart and build the next generation to never forget where we come from and where we are going, B”H in our days we will finally reach the long awaited redemption with the coming of Moshiach.
