Shavuah Tov! Wishing everyone a blessed week full of open and revealed good.
This week’s Parasha “Shlach” deals with the situation of the spies that Moses sent to scout the Land of Israel before the Jewish people were going to enter it. Sadly they came with a bad report and the Jewish people had to wander for forty more years in the desert before they finally entered the Promised Land.
“And Moshe called Hoshea, the son of Nun, “Yehoshua.”(Bamidbar 13:16)
Rashi states that Moshe called him Yehoshua because Moshe prayed that G-d should save him from the plans of the other spies.
Rabbi Abraham Mordechai of Gur explained that the nature of a person with humility is not to be stubborn about his own opinions and wishes. He is compliant and will easily give in to the opinions of others. The other spies were very distinguished and important men, actually they were the leaders of each tribe. Moshe feared that Yehoshua could be swayed by their opinions, for he knew that their intentions were not to bring a good report but to look at what was wrong.
Life is full of choices and it’s not black or white, on the contrary it’s many shades of grey. Sometimes we can get caught up into many different traps that might confuse us as what is the right way to go.
This is why we need H”S assistance and this we attain by praying that He should guide us in our life, we should also have a good Mashpiach (mentor who is G-d fearing) and can guide us through the wisdom of Torah.
