Shavuah Tov! Wishing everyone a blessed week full of health, peace of mind and success.
In this week’s Torah Portion “Eikev”(Heel), begins by saying “If you will hear…” hearing is a lower level of perception than seeing and the name of the Parashah means “heel” the lowest extremity of the body and perhaps the most insensitive part. Although in most cases it takes more effort to learn by hearing than by seeing, the advantage is that when we hear we have to go deeper into our essence, forging us to make a more profound relationship with H”S.
To know H”S and to believe in H”S are to different things. To know H”S comes from what we see. We see the world and we come to the conclusion that there must be a creator. But to believe is a complete different story. The word Emunah means to believe that H”S runs the world at every instant. The word “Uman” means an artisan that has trained and practiced his craft until it becomes natural to him. Emunah comes from training the belief muscle. The heel represents our behavior and actions, even if we don’t believe “fake it till you make it.”
By praying every day, learning Torah every day, and doing Mitzvahs every day we take our actions to exercise constantly until, like the Uman (Artisan) has trained and mastered his craftsmanship until it becomes one with him. This is the way to reach Emunah. And to hear means to be sensitive to that higher calling that means faith and for that we understand that we don’t need to understand we just believe what we can’t comprehend.
