Shavuah Tov! Wishing everyone a blessed and very productive week.
Throughout the ten plagues that H”S sent the Egyptians to create in them the awareness of “The One and Only G-d,” and to make Pharaoh let the Jewish people go, we see how Pharaoh each time a plague hits becomes more and more stubborn and not only doesn’t allow the Jews to go but also hardens their lives by making them work even more.
“Beshalach,” this week’s Torah portion’s name means “sent away.” We can see from this that the same Pharaoh that created obstacles for the Jews at the end not only sent them away but helped them get out of Egypt.
From this we can learn a powerful lesson in our daily life. Sometimes we find opposition in our lives, even as Jews sometimes it’s very hard to keep ourselves true to ourselves because the outside world creates a lot of challenges.
For example: we see young Jewish kids going off to college, suddenly they encounter a very hostile world (BDS, Antisemitism, values that are antagonistic to Torah values, etc…) And this obstacles are what make them rise to the challenge making them stronger and more committed Jews.
The same person or situation of opposition makes us take a 180 degree turn and actually help us follow our ways, just like Pharaoh’s opposition at the end became their help once the Jews decided to follow H”S ways.
