Shavuah Tov!!! Blessings for the new week.
Yesterday when I heard the tragic news on the massacre of 11 Jewish brothers and sisters I was heartbroken. Sadly this is not a new feeling, it is something we as Jews have experienced numerous times in our lifetime and many lifetimes before ours.
The name of the Shul in Pittsburgh can give us some comfort and a very revealed message to all of us. “Etz Chaim” ( The Tree of Life), is the living Torah. In the Garden of Eden there were many trees, amongst them we had the “Tree of Good and Evil,” which was the one from which Adam and Eve ate and we are still paying till today for this sin. But there is also the “tree of life,” which is divided in ten attributes of H”S. This “tree of life” encapsulates the whole Torah and it is a guide of life to us.
When tragedy strikes, first we feel lost, scared, and very very sad, all normal and proper feelings for the situation, but then comes “the tree of life,” and sheds some light and comfort in such a dark moment.
“Stick to Torah and Mitzvahs,” it tells us, and don’t let go.”
The secret of JEWISH survival through the millennia is the resilience of a Jewish soul, that doesn’t let go of “the tree of life,” no matter what. We get up, put the pieces together and continue being a light to others by fulfilling our own ad unique purpose of infusing the world with G-dliness ,by turning such a dark moment into light and life, by doing even more acts of kindness and learning more Torah and in this way, with H”S help, the world will come soon to a time of eternal peace.
May the souls of this holy Jews who died “Al Kiddush H”S” (sanctifying G-d’s name)have eternal rest and may their memory be for blessing.
