“Seek G-d when He is to be found,” proclaims the prophet Isaiah. “Call upon Him when He is near.” When is G-d to be found and near? The prophet, say our Sages, is referring to the 10 days of Teshuvah between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipur.
These 10 days are the most solemn of the year: 10 days designated for soul searching, greater diligence in the observance of mitzvot, and our attachment and connection to H”S through our Teshuvah (return to our essence).
Teshuvah is the most amazing and transformative of human abilities, it can be achieved in an instant. We just need to WANT to be who we really are.
Our acceptance of G-d as our King in Rosh Hashana is the foundation laid to be able to return. Understanding that ultimately everything comes from H”S and everything presented to us, every situation, in reality is an opportunity to grow and attach ourselves to Him will bring us to Yom Kipur, well prepared and able to confront our misdeeds and finally turn them around in complete Teshuvah, revealing the truth that was hidden behind the veil.
