Rosh Chodesh Tov!! Toda …

By June 7, 2019 No Comments

Rosh Chodesh Tov!! Today we celebrate the first day of the month of Sivan, the month of the giving of the Torah.
Today we count the 45th day of the Omer with “Tiferet She Be Malchut” (Compassion in Kingship).
Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz was once heard asking: “Why do we say that wearing special clothes for Shabbat is honoring Shabbat? Isn’t it honoring ourselves?” He answered that only someone who is honored is able to honor others.
Honor is not something that is meant to lower others down, on the contrary honor should bring more responsibility, it should make us more aware of others around us and their needs.
I will never forget when I once spent Sukkot in Boston. We were graciously invited for the whole Yom Tov meals to the home of Henry and Mimi Feurstein. In those days I was growing in Torah observance and hadn’t been exposed to much. I will never forget her table, it was set for a king. Their guests where mostly lonely people and some very troubled, nevertheless everyone was treated as royalty. I imagine that everyone felt as if they were the most important person on earth, at least this is how I felt.
By honoring H”S children we not only give honor to The King but we do to ourselves too.
By wearing special clothes, cooking delicious meals, and setting a beautiful table for Shabbat and the holidays we not only elevate the physical world but we also elevate ourselves by bringing honor to H”S.
Shabbat Shalom
