The Torah portion of the week has a timely, universal and right on point message every week. To live with the Parasha of the week is to live with the times.
“Because you did not serve the Almighty, your G-d,with joy and with a good heart when you had everything.” (Devarim 28:47)
In the list of things that can befall us for our misdeeds it doesn’t list or even tell us which are the misdeeds, but it does say that “because you did not serve…with joy….”
When we are aware of our many blessings and we don’t take them for granted we will be happy to serve H”S. When we are so worried about ourselves and what we think and feel we will not be able to serve H”S with Joy. On the contrary, we will become divisive people, always trying to change others people’s views. We will loose respect and tolerance towards others.
Sadly we have to be hit by hurricanes that wake us up to what is really important in life. Human life is the most precious thing that exists in this world. H”S made many different religions, race, heights, sizes, etc… Every person is a whole universe made in the image of H”S.
When calamity strikes it doesn’t differentiate, we all suffer together and at this moments humanity wakes up and works together to bring the world to perfection. We should be able to do it in the good times so we don’t have to suffer the wake up call.
Praying for the welfare of all those who are going through “Irma” know that you are not alone.
